Drainage Systems

We have over 30 years experience with Essex County geography and understand that consistent grading and drainage are critical in any landscape project. In order to solve any drainage problem, one must identify the source of excess water before finding a logical exit path.

Poor water drainage can lead to both long and short term issues. Depending on the volume of water and homeowner needs, our systems can efficiently carry it away or store it for use around your property.

Soil Grading

A simple change in your yard’s grade steepness or direction can passively eliminate many water-related problems. Terraces, rocks and plant life are added to increase the land’s water absorbing capacity and further control erosion.

Where passive solutions fall short we can implement a number of active solutions to deal with excess water on your property. Simple drains and pipes in strategic locations can eliminate standing water in walkways, driveways and lawns.

Short Term Issues

  • Puddles & Water Retention
  • Insufficient or Clogged Gutters
  • Poor Soil Composition
  • Neighbor Property Runoff

Long Term Issues

  • Standing water can leak into basements and foundations. During the winter that water will freeze and widen once harmless hairline cracks. Lawn and plant growth in those puddle areas is heavily impeded.
  • Many gutter systems drain into obsolete clay pipes and it’s no surprise when these fail. This invisible subsurface water retention is difficult to detect until it mysteriously floods your basement.
  • Soggy gardens choke plants by preventing adequate oxygen from reaching the roots. This is characteristic of clay-rich soil.
  • Some water runoff is unavoidable, especially around hilly towns and properties. Hills can absorb huge amounts of water and bleed it out slowly at lower elevations. This only becomes a problem when the property is already struggling with their own rainfall.

Deer & Pest Prevention

Tall deer fencing at strategic locations is one solution we install for deer damage. If fencing is unrealistic or disruptive we have an extensive selection of plants outside their diet habits.
